Gratitude...

Humbled. Twice. Three times over. I am humbled. My heart is full of gratitude. Thank you Portland for the outpouring of support for Yoga Views and Brews. Thank you my fellow Black community for joining the yoga experiencing and encouraging our traumatized loved ones to seek healing. Thank you to all of Om Thrive supporters, advocates, social media boosters, allies and friends. I am so excited to see where we go from here.

My goal for the remainder of this year and into 2020 is to host Yoga for Mental Health workshops for underserved communities in Portland. We need to address and heal fro traumatic events such as abuse, incarceration, racial inequity, gentrification, and exclusion. Everyone should be able to enjoy practicing yoga at their favorite studio in anywhere in Portland, anywhere in Oregon, anywhere in the world. Stay tuned and check back often to join Om Thrive in this effort.

PDX Events: Rose City Wellness Week

Portland's nickname (Rose City) was inspired by a small gesture of generosity. A man allowing neighbors to freely clip roses from his front yard, and by doing so, changed the landscape of this city forever. Native or transplant we are all connected by the city we live in. We want to encourage individuals to take small steps to be kinder, not only to each other but especially to themselves.

September 17th will kick-off a week-long series of experiences activated and led by Masters in Health & Wellness. These programs will focus on six dimensions of holistic wellness (Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Social, Spiritual, and Environmental). Throughout the week there will be opportunities to engage and learn how movement, art, social interactions, music, education, and food play into our overall well-being.

Andrea

Andrea Larreta is from Los Angeles, California. She received her early classical training with dancers formerly of Ballet West, American Ballet Theater, and Basel Ballet. She attended the Idyllwild Arts academy and graduated with honors, spending her summers training with Gelsey Kirkland. Andrea went on to study on scholarship at SMU, attending the Paul Taylor School and Martha Graham School over the summers before graduating with a BFA, Cum Laude, in Dance. In 2006, Andrea moved to Seattle. In Seattle she appeared in works by Deb Wolf, Rainbow Fletcher, Zoe Scofield, and Lauren Edson, among others. Andrea danced with Coriolis Dance Collective for 6 years, during which time the Seattle Times called her a, "diminutive dynamo," (2012) and her choreography, "the most succinct and dynamic in the show," (2013). Andrea has been in Portland since 2015, and has worked in dance and film, including The Portland Opera, Imago Theatre, TransformOtion, Polaris Dance Theater, Wild Rumpus Jazz Dance Company, and Lyrik Dance Company, as well as commercials for the American Music Awards, Goodwill Industries, and Swinomish Casino. After practicing almost daily for several years, she received her 200 hour RYT certification from CorePower Yoga in 2016. Andrea's class emphasizes linking breath with movement and encourages students to make choices in their flow that best serve their needs.

Eve

Embodied practices like yoga and meditation have been repeatedly scientifically proven to be effective at supporting mental health and helping people heal from daily stress to severe and complex trauma. As a mental health therapist, Eve brings 7 years experience in the mental health field to her yoga and mindfulness teaching and is dedicated to bridging the gap between therapies for mind and body to treat mental illness, addictions, and trauma from a holistic standpoint.

Eve enjoys teaching energetic and mindfully-sequenced vinyasa flow, detail-oriented and anatomy-based hatha, and deeply grounding yin practices. She weaves in themes from modern Western psychology, neuroscience, ancient Eastern philosophy, and applications for taking lessons learned on the mat into the rest of life to create a well-rounded practice to nourish mind, body, and spirit.
Eve values cultivating a safe, trauma-informed space in which consent is paramount, making classes accessible to each student's individual anatomy through empowering students to learn and listen to their bodies and through creative use of props and cues.
